THE SECOND COMING
INT. 6AM. CAR
Lisa sit’s munching on a sesame seed ryvita, eyes fixed on the train station entrance. The phone rings.
ANNE
Hi! It’s me. I am so angry I have just woken up.
LISA
I am at the station, waiting.
ANNE
I am so annoyed. I set the alarm clock but I didn’t hear it.
LISA
Oh it doesn’t matter. I can go home and just make your way when you’re ready. Do you think we should go?
ANNE
Yes, I want to.
LISA
Me too. Maybe there is a reason why you woke up late.
ANNE
Maybe. Maybe we shouldn’t go.
LISA
No. I think you are right we should. I need to get out of town.
ANNE
Yes, me too. Let’s go.
INT. LISA’S FLAT.
Lisa sits meditating. The phone rings.
ANNE
I feel better. I will be there in an hour. Shall we go?
LISA
Yes. We are going, we planned to go let’s go. God! What are we like.
They both laugh.
ANNE
Ok. See you in an hour.
INT. 9AM. CAR
Lisa drives around the corner meeting a waving Anne, bag and camera in one hand, cake in the other. She pulls over opening the car door. Anne clambers in.
ANNE
The weather is so rainy. It’s amazing it’s exactly the same as the first time we went.
LISA
I know. It’s weird isn’t it. I’m glad we are going.
ANNE
Do you want this cake? It’s horrible.
LISA
No let’s get some chocolate.
Anne bins the cake.
ANNE
Oh I have this for you to listen to it’s music from Jordan. You will love it. This song. It’s all about the love.
Anne plugs her phone into two portable speakers. Lisa drives listening.
ANNE(CONT’D)
Listen to the words....
LISA
Oh my god! I love it. It’s so true. Love is amazing.
ANNE
I know. I haven’t felt love like this before. It’s pure.
LISA
I know. It’s like you are on another dimension, nothing else exists it is total and utter freedom. It’s funny though people are so afraid of it that when they get it they run.
I did that years ago, but having done both the only way is to embrace it with the core of your being. It’s life.
ANNE
I love LOVE!.
Lisa turns into the garage, dashing into the petrol station grabbing, maltesers, pringles, fudge bars...
INT.CAR.
ANNE
I can’t stop eating.
LISA
Open the maltesers. I love maltesers. Ahh! Someone I love bought me maltesers once meant more to me than all the diamonds in the world.
Anne puts the music back on as they devour the maltesers, the pringles and the fudge bars, one after the other.
ANNE
I feel a huge change.
LISA
So many things have changed, and we will see bigger changes when we go back, it will all be different again after today.
ANNE
I can’t believe we are going back, we have to go to the cafe and to our spot.
LISA
I need to stop off at my Dad’s to check on the fish in his pond. My brother and Mum aren’t there and there is a hole in the fish pond. When they go away they never get anyone to top it up so I sneak in and do it. My dad loved those fish, i don’t want them to die.
ANNE
Oh I’m going to go to the house you were born in.
LISA
Yes, oh this is weird not many people have been in my home.
ANNE
I’m excited.
The car turns into a quiet street, the rain is lashing down.
ANNE (CONT’D)
Let me take my camera.
Lisa and Anne get out of the car, running getting soaking wet.
LISA
I love the rain.
ANNE
Me too.
LISA
We are mad.
ANNE
I know.
Lisa turns the lock opening the door.
ANNE (CONT’D)
Wow! This is clean.
Anne walks around the house looking at photos of Lisa over the years.
ANNE (CONT’D)
That’s not you!
LISA
Yep. Horrendous isn’t it.
Anne’s grin says it all. Anne walks to the patio doors.
ANNE
The garden is sweet.
LISA
My dad is there.
Lisa points to a tall marble sundial next to the fish pond.
ANNE
What do you mean?
LISA
My dad’s ashes are in that marble sundial. That was his favorite thing to do when he was sick, watching the fish in the pond, so he’s there now all the time with his little fish.
ANNE
Oh I have to take a photo.
ANNE (CONT’D)
I did a similar thing with my friend who died in the car accident I carried her ashes with me.
LISA
There is no right or wrong way, whatever feels right, follow your heart on that one I say.
Lisa runs into the house as Anne stands in the pouring rain, clicking away...Lisa watches from the kitchen window.
Anne comes bounding in, looking around, she points.
ANNE
The tea bags. In your short film.
Lisa laughs.
LISA
Oh yes! That was a long time ago now. Let’s go.
INT. CAR
ANNE
I’m so glad you let me come into your home.
Anne is back to her love song, this time double the volume as they drive towards their little cafe.
LISA
I have had so many signs lately about so many things. You know when you open up to things and you ask and something just shows you the way.
They turn down a narrow alleyway towards the sea.
LISA (CONT’D)
Oh my god! It’s a sign.
Anne starts laughing.
LISA (CONT’D)
Oh No. Seriously, I asked for this specific sign and there it is. That car. How many cars do you ever see like that.
ANNE
No. I have never seen one of those.
LISA
I asked to see one of those if I am on the right track and there it is. We must always pay attention to the signs.
ANNE
I can feel a new energy. Can you feel it? A calm. A stillness. It feels like time is standing still.
They sit silent staring out onto a turbulant ocean.
ANNE (CONT’D)
Look at the waves. We have to take lots of photos.
EXT. SEAFRONT.
Anne is snapping away.
ANNE
Take a photo of me with the waves behind me.
Lisa takes the camera, snapping away, non stop. The wind blows as Annes top lifts up.
ANNE (CONT’D)
I have a hole in the butt of my trousers.
She lifts her top up revealing the tear in her trousers.
ANNE (CONT’D)
I don’t care what does it matter.
She lifts her arms into the air as the wind blows through her.
ANNE (CONT’D)
I am freeeeeeeee!
INT. CAFE.
WAITER
3 of you? How many of you beautiful girls?
ANNE
2
WAITER
Where you like to sit?
Anne and Lisa look around the half empty restaurant, actually the empty restaurant with the exception of one table with 6 mothers and toddlers. They both look at each other in recognition.
ANNE
That one.
Anne points to the table nearest the children.
LISA
Look at those children they are so beautiful and free.
ANNE
Can you feel the mothers.
Lisa nods in agreement.
ANNE (CONT’D)
Their energy is so heavy.
LISA
They are burdened with everything, you can see it in their eyes. They don’t need to but it’s hard when you are living it.
ANNE
We need to show everyone how to obtain their freedom.
LISA
Oh oh oh! Do you remember that guy, last time, he was the catalyst to all of this, the site everything.
ANNE
That was amazing! He said you must never let any man come between you. That was from a different place.
LISA
That day was incredible. I was in the worst place and that day changed everything.
They both sit staring at each other.
ANNE
I want all the dead people of the world to come alive. All the people tortured to be free of their restrictions. I want everyone to embrace life, everyone seems so unhappy.
LISA
I know but it’s like us we changed ourselves but only when the time was right, we had to be in the right place, to want to change. If we put it out there the ones that want it will embrace it the ones that don’t will walk away but they know at the core of them that there is something in it but they are afraid to see the truth.
ANNE
Truth is the only way. I have always been about truth, but now i see the love. You have always seen the love but for me it’s all different now.
LISA
It’s the way it is supposed to be. All of it, we are supposed to experience the things we are experiencing right now to make us grow and evolve so we understand more.
ANNE
It’s amazing isn’t it, feeling this the way we do.
LISA
It is. It’s alienating at times, but when others understand it. It is complete and utter freedom. Nothing is complicated, everything is simple.
ANNE
Life is simple that’s what i learnt in Jordan. Life is so simple.
LISA
Love is the core of everything. I have always known that. If we truly love with our souls we connect differently it changes people, i know because i see it happening.
ANNE
We do connect on that level with everyone. It’s nothing special it’s just human nature if we allow that to happen without restriction.
LISA
I want to go to our place now.
ANNE
Well we are living in the here and now so lets.
LISA
Yes. Come on lets go.
INT. RESTAURANT BEACHY HEAD.
ANNE
It’s so strange being back here.
LISA
It was 9 months ago we started the site.
They both giggle.
ANNE
Look how much we have changed and what we have been through.
LISA
It’s funny it’s like you go on your journey and I go on mine and yet we just accept that with no control on either part and when we come together it’s as if no time has passed at all.
ANNE
It’s because we understand that you cannot control another human being, you have no right to do that. No one does.
LISA
That’s what life is about being selfless.
ANNE
Love. We have to do something on love for the site.
LISA
Yes. I go on about love all the time in my writings.
ANNE
Something specific. Something to open people up, something to open their hearts up, without fear.
LISA
Oh oh oh! That’s perfect. You and I have both experienced love from the core of our being, have had glass splinters stabbed through our hearts and yet we love more and more.
ANNE
Yes. I feel a huge change. Huge.
They sit looking at each other. A man passes Anne glances up he beams the most genuine smile at her.
ANNE (CONT’D)
Hi
He looks and smiles again. She looks at Lisa bemused.
LISA
It’s because we are in love with love. He is feeling the love.
Anne bursts out laughing.
ANNE
Let’s go get some photos.
The door opens as the wind gushes in, a chilling, cold to the core wind.
ANNE (CONT’D)
What happened. It’s freezing out here.
LISA
It’s the change. The change is happening the wind is blowing in a different direction. We have changed we are on a different journey, on the next journey into the unknown but with love love love, in love with love!
Anne runs arms in the air...
ANNE
In love with life. In love with love, Let’s make the world fall in love.
