Back To Life

Summer 2005

Back To Life

Back to Life is basically a scene from a feature script that I have written; I wanted to see if I could pull off a static scene with two people sitting at a table doing absolutely nothing.

This was a difficult one so I wrote the script and put the wheels into motion, this time I used a different DOP Brian Strange and his team of people. He introduced me to a whole other world of people who had been to film school with him; an Editor, Vid Price, Colourist Thomas Urbye and many more amazing guys and they helped me create Back To Life.

Again not really knowing a great deal myself they gently guided me through. I don’t know what they thought but they were all 100% supportive and I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing today without them. I was like a dog with a bone, I was on a mission and I wanted to know it all.

Back to Life was a huge part of the stuff that came up when I was going through my intense emotional journey as I have mentioned it is part of my feature so a much bigger story surrounds this but my challenge to make a scene at a table was complete. Oh, now this one was slightly different, my accident happened whilst I was half way through my drama school training so having had my acting dreams stolen from me I had to fulfil this ambition so I acted in it.

I composed all the shots and my friend Charlie Gardner oversaw everything on the day. From an acting point of view I had to do this, it was a passion, my dream from a child so I had to put that one to bed and I loved every single minute of it and as far as I was concerned this was a learning experience; me testing myself, pushing myself to see how much I could do if I really put my mind to it, with 100% focus, one aim without halt. I still cringe at the acting to be perfectly honest, but it was fun, the best fun, but you can see why I have decided to stick to making films rather than acting in them whilst editing Back to Life, Beautiful Eyes was being born.
